a lot of people are surprised to know i hate the furry fandom and fetish and anything that goes along with it.
and in turn, i'm surprised that they're surprised! i mean there's not a direct correlation between drawing furries and being a part of the furry community. i draw them because i like how they look, not because it turns me on. because i can make more interesting characters that way, not because i just wanna see 'em "yiff".
so of course it bothers me when i show people my comic and they immediately go "oh. furries...." and make such a harsh judgment because of it. and most people who actually look past their previous convictions and give the comic a chance tell me the characters are anything but furry, that they're very human and easy to identify with, etc etc....
ugh i don't know, sorry for rambling. i'm just tired of people being jerks.

Haha, oh hun...
If you plan on continuing to draw with this style, it will be labeled as it is: Like it or not, your comic IS furry. "Furry" is the label given to art of anthropomorphic animals. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Furry) The word also encompasses those with a "furry" lifestyle. The majority of your fanbase are furries.
This statement of yours is purely hateful and really not needed. It will only alienate a good portion of your readers. Honestly, seeing this, I've lost a lot of respect for you.
I am a Furry, and so is my boyfriend. By that I mean, we are fans of "furry art" i.e. YOUR type of art. While we acknowledge that "THAT" side of furry (yiff, sluttyness, etc.) exists, we don't participate in it.
Don't you see that by posting this, you are being a judgmental jerk yourself?

whoa whoa, hold up. you're misunderstanding me.
no, i am not being a jerk. i am saying that is what i'm not about. i am not judging those that are. i just wish people wouldn't judge me as one.
to clarify: i have nothing against those who identify themselves as furry, and really i don't care that a lot of them are my readers. that's great, that's who they are and i'm cool with that! but i'm tired of the label being slapped on me and having to defend myself. it's frustrating, you know?
i am sorry you misinterpreted.
also i just noticed my karma went down two points. that's hilarious, haha...

i am apologizing because i was being ambiguous and therefore what i wrote was open to different interpretations... so the fault is on me. don't worry.

With all due respect Mazack, I think you need to pull your head out of your arse.
Though I am also a fur, I also have the self awareness to know that I cannot force everyone to share the same view point. I think taking Nikki's thoughts as "hateful" could have more to do with your urge to defend the fandom - I think in this case it was misplaced.
I can admit the word furry carries a stigma - I can associate my self with it but that doesn't mean others want to be associated with it.

in any case i'm just venting... honestly sometimes i want to stop drawing this comic because of the furry stigma but i'm too attached to the characters.
during the upcoming hiatus i was thinking of starting up one of my other comic ideas with human characters...

This dark world of ours is FULL of narrow-minded fools. It just can't be helped...

Don't let the narrow minded haters kill this comic Nikki - the fact it provokes a strong reaction is a sign that it's making a more important statement than most of the gag comics on the web. If you decide to pack it in, fair play. I would certainly miss your work

After all, you're not writing for the haters. And if they judge you like that, they will look like fools in the end, since you do not make erotic furry art. And I like the whole furry (NOT EROTIC) aspect. It's imaginative and just makes it more fun. Something like that, idk. I just feel a greater attraction towards it than other webcomics.

Technically this comic is ANTHRO, not furry. Furry is basically inherently sexual, while anthro is just anthropomorphized characters (animals who look and act like humans). Though there have been sexual scenes in this comic, they are not the reason behind it, and none of it has been pornographic (unlike a great deal of furry art).
Nine Lives is NOT a furry comic, it is an anthro.
